Established in 1997, RJ Rockers Brewing Company became Spartanburg, South Carolina’s first brewery with the goal of providing the people of the Upstate with the best microbrewed beer they had ever tasted.
Owner and brewer Mark Johnsen, a New Jersey native, had loved brewing beer for his friends and family for years. Followinghis service in the 1991 Gulf War, Mark was stationed in Germany as a member of the United States Armed Forces, and he took this opportunity to learn as much as possible about brewing from the experts. By the time he was honorably discharged from the service, he was ready to take his beer to the public.
Mark first opened RJ Rockers Brewing Company as a brewpub in Spartanburg’s historic downtown Morgan Square, and it quickly became a favorite downtown meeting place. Visitors could sample as many as ten different craft-brewed beers on any given day, while enjoying excellent food and live music entertainment.
After many successful years of building a reputation as one of the best distinguished craft beer brewers in South Carolina, Mark relocated and expanded his brewery to a 46,000 square foot facility featuring a 30 barrel brewing system with incredible potential for future growth. RJ Rockers also has a strong commitment to the environment, with the new brewhouse built with sustainability in mind and a long term goal of becomming 100% self-sufficient. Cheers to setting a serious example with seriously good brews...enjoy these selections!
