Sandy beaches, resort villages, miles of protected environment, and no cars
allowed - talk about the ultimate vacation spot! Fire Island, the small island located off the south shore of Long Island, New York, is the incredible home to this month’s Craft Beer Club feature.
For years, Jeff Glassman and his family vacationed on the island, brewing their own beer all summer long. Since there weren’t proper beer stores on Fire Island, Jeff and his cousin Tom found homebrewing to be the best alternative. With the incredible laid back lifestyle on Fire Island, they knew the
place needed its own beer and in 2008, that dream turned into a reality.
While running The Shack, a local landmark for vacationers to relax and enjoy
a good meal, Jeff and Tom introduced their first home brew - a lager whose taste was inspired by the easygoing vibe at The Shack and throughout Fire Island. With the support of the locals, Fire Island Beer Company was born.
Tom headed up the beer making, while Jeff and his brother Greg split up the
sales, marketing, and promotions side of the business. The brewery was officially founded in 2009 and instantly became a big hit, immediately distributing to a number of nearby states and top restaurants.
Today, the family brewery has a small collection of world-class craft beers with
serious character, substance, and style. They are beers for all seasons, all foods, and all friends (or as Fire Island likes to say, the kind of beer you want to have a beer with). Enjoy!
-
- Red Wagon IPA
- India Pale Ale
- 7.00% ABV / 45.00 IBU
- Big on flavor and big on substance! The Red Wagon IPA is a smooth-bodied golden
beer that blends the right amount of floral and fruity hops and finishes with a crisp taste. The beer was inspired by the car-less Fire Island and the inhabitants who carry their belongings in red pull wagons.
-
- Frozen Tail Ale
- American Strong Ale
- 6.50% ABV / 60.00 IBU
- Winter is all about spreading the warmth, and the Frozen Tail Ale was crafted to do just that! With a layered blend of five different American and British hops, this beer is balanced and flavorful with delicious notes of roasted caramel and toffee. It’s sure to keep you toasty, even on the chilliest days.

- Cajun Chicken Pasta
- 4 oz. linguine pasta
2 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, sliced into thin strips
2 tsp. Cajun seasoning
2 Tbs. butter
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
4 fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 green onion, minced
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/4 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. lemon pepper
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
2 Tbs. grated Parmesan cheese - Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add linguine pasta, and cook for 8 to 10 min. or until al dente; drain. Meanwhile, place chicken and Cajun seasoning in a bowl and toss to coat. In a large skillet over med. heat, saute chicken in butter until no longer pink and juices run clear, about 5 to 7 min. Add bell peppers, sliced mushrooms and green onions; cook for 2 to 3 min. Reduce heat, and stir in heavy cream. Season the sauce with basil, lemon pepper, salt, garlic powder and ground black pepper, and heat through. In a large bowl, toss linguine with sauce. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
