Arkansas’ first production brewery, Diamond Bear Brewing Company was founded in Little Rock by Russ and Sue Melton in September of 2000. Russ is an Arkansas native and first realized his passion for discovering regional beers while serving in the Army and living in Bavaria, Germany for many years. When he returned home, Russ decided Arkansas was desperately in need of its own beer.
The name he decided on is as distinctive as the beer his family produces. Diamond Bear comes from the fact that Arkansas is the only state with a diamond mine and that Arkansas once had such a large bear population that it was known as the Bear State. Combined, these two Arkansas facts have created a unique and distinctly Arkansan name for the small family brewery.
The Diamond Bear craft beers are all produced in the old time honored traditional methods of European brewers, following the German Purity Law of 1516. This means Diamond Bear only uses true beer ingredients: water, hops, yeast and barley. Brewing it locally, and using strictly Arkansas water, means these beers are fresh and naturally flavorful.
Keeping it in the family, Russ and Sue hired nephew Jesse Melton for their Master Brewer, and their son Scott often helps around the brewery and assists with the bottling process. Together, they are building an award-winning brand, and continue striving to make the best beer possible from their all natural ingredients.

- Irish Red Ale
- Irish Ale
- 4.60% ABV / 31.00 IBU
- Brewed with a rich blend of malts to impart a deep red full body, this Irish Red Ale is bold and smooth with flavors of caramel, butterscotch, light fruitiness and hints of roasted malt. Generous amounts of hops brings out a wonderfully fresh aroma. Cheers!

- Fried Fish Tacos
- 1 quart vegetable oil
12 to 16 corn tortillas
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp. salt
1 cup beer (not dark)
1 lb. cod fillet, cut into 3 by 1 inch strips - Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Heat 1 inch oil in a 10-inch heavy pot (2-3 inches deep) over moderate heat until a deep-fat thermometer registers 360 degrees. Meanwhile, separate tortillas and make 2 stacks of 6 to 8. Wrap each stack in foil and heat in oven 12 to 15 min. While tortillas warm, stir together flour and salt in a large bowl, then stir in beer (batter will be thick). Gently stir fish into batter to coat. Lift each piece of fish out of batter, wiping any excess off on side of bowl, and fry fish in batches, turning once or twice, until golden, 4-5 min. Drain on paper towels. Increase oil temperature to 375 degrees and refry fish in batches, turning once or twice, until golden brown and crisp, about 1 min. Drain on paper towels. Assemble tacos with warm tortillas, fish, and accompaniments.
